Today we made our annual trek to Bass Pro Shop to meet & greet with Santa. After experiences from years past, this year I procrastinated a bit. Usually we would've done this 3 weeks ago but up until yesterday I wasn't sure if this year we'd even go at all. Normally we can at least count on Natalie to like Santa, but after the Easter Bunny fiasco, even she couldn't be replied upon.
Throughout the month I have been working on painting Santa as a friend and not just some random guy. Adrianna is starting to get a better grasp on Christmas and knows that Santa will come and bring gifts. We have watched every episode of every cartoon with him in it, about 100 times each. We looked at passed pics of her and Natalie with him so she could see that she HAS met him before - and survived!
So we finally decided to just go ahead and go. It's free, so why not at least try, right? We get in the car and I tell them we're going to see Santa. They're excited. Super excited. This has happened before and I'm not buying into it this time. We get inside and we're waiting in line. They can see Santa, still excited, Adrianna decides she's going first. We wait some more and finally it's our turn. NO! Natalie should go first, that Santa guy looks pretty evil. Natalie goes and couldn't care less about the whole thing.
Natalie survives and gets a candy cane. Adrianna decides maybe he's not so bad if he didn't eat her sister. Plus candy tastes good. She agrees to go over to him as long as Natalie's with her and there's candy involved. Santa is well trained and cons her into the camera's view with talk about getting My Little Ponies for Christmas. Santa's elves managed to get her to look at the camera and a photo was snapped.
Adrianna survived and got her well-earned candy cane. My goal for this year was to not have to be in the picture myself, and that was accomplished. Maybe next year we'll get a smile out of both of them!

Natalie looks like an adorable little mini college student
